  1. Make adding own scripts more easy (graphical) to do.

Adding own scripts is not an easy job to do now. Perhaps you could make it more graphical, copy/paste, drag/drop sort of thing?

    Hi,

We now have a beta version of a UI tool to help people generate scripts for use in SQL Scripts Manager. If you’re interesting in trying it out, here’s a link to it:
    http://www.red-gate.com/SSMScriptGenerator/v1

There’s also an article about using it at http://www.simple-talk.com/sql/sql-tools/fast-and-free-sql-scripts-managers-script-generator/

    Thanks,

    Colin.

  2. This is a great util. It would the best tool ever if you could just cut and paste our own code in it

This is a great util. It would the best tool ever if you could just cut and paste our own code in it instead of having to play with XML files. There was a tool called CodeKeeper that had the ability to cut and paste our custom code into it and it made it great and easy to use.

Now with the easy to add code function the next thing I would add is a easy way to upload our custom code to your site for you and others to share and use. Kind of like facebook but for SQL…

  3. store in cloud

scripts would then be accessible from any location (most of us use multiple machines foten remote) and could also make scripts 'public' for code sharing. Was hoping that is what the 'share' button was going to be for.

  6. Choose Servers from SQL Central Management Server

I've created a Central Management Server in SQL and it would be nice to have an option or preference to set the server list to choose from it.

  7. I would love to be able to populate a combo from a select

If we could populate a combobox list from a select, the values in the list would change dynamically based on current values from the database. This makes the interface much more like a standard database application tool would create. Awesome first version, Red Gate!

  8. Allow for server paths for network sharing the repository. I.E. \\servername\path\path\xxx

Well, I cannot figure out how to make the repository available to all the DBAs. There is no option to paste in a path like \\servername\path\etc

You can only choose a folder on your drives or make a new folder on a drive locally. I have the current version loaded.

Was this written by a Ma and PA operation with 4 employees?

    This is no good.

  9. include a way of specifying which SQL Server versions the script works on

A lot of the scripts have things that won't work on some versions of SQL [especially 2000 :-(] but there is no way to show this in the meta data for the scripts. With new versions of SQL Server due there is a good chance some current scripts will stop being suitable in future too

  10. Search Scripts by Multiple Selection of Tags

I like the quick search capability of selecting a tag and seeing only the scripts that match that tag.

I belive making the application able to select multiple tags and filtering the script pane accordingly would be a good addition.

I work with several disparate systems on a daily basis that all accomplish the same taks. So it would be nice to be able to multiple scripts by say (grouping goal, specific goal, system) and quickly get to the required script for execution when needed with just 2 or 3 clicks. Currently I'm having to search through about 40 directories…

  11. Make the xml document separate from the script

If the xml document is a separate entity from the sql script that would still allow scripts to be dropped in the folder as is and visible but with no propertes. Just add an optional form that creates an xml document with the same name with all the desired properties such as title, description, owner, and so on.

  12. BUG: columns displayed in different order than selected??

    SELECT name = ISNULL(s1.name, s2.NAME), r1 = s1.rows, r2 = s2.rows, diff = s2.rows - s1.rows
    FULL OUTER JOIN

will show name, r2, r1, diff in the result grid
instead of name, r1, r2, diff

  13. Allow Users to change the Script Title "Font Color" from RED to something easier on the eyes

I've found that I group scripts I've add personally with a leading underscore prefix so I can easily see RG's original scripts vs. scripts I have added. I do the same with the name of each author, as well as any .png files I've added.
Unfortunately when we add our own scripts the font for the script title changes to RED, which is really hard on the eyes. I understand RG wants to color code the user added content, and I'm ok with keeping it a separate color, but please help us by making this a softer color option. Or…

  14. Add refresh button on results screen

Add a refresh button to the results screen to allow re-executing the query without clicking Back, clicking Run, then having to resize/maximize the screen again.

  16. Generate scripts without local administrator permission

When I want to generate a script, I am prompted to elevate to local administrator. I can understand needing admin for an install, but generating a script should not require admin permissions.

My company requires dedicated admin accounts, so I have to input different credentials, which then means that the script generator does not have access to the same resources (mapped drives, my documents) as my local account. This makes adding a generated script a tremendous hassle and not worth the effort.

Please update the script manager with modern OS's in mind. It should not require admin routes for a…

  17. Work with source control such as GIT

If this tool supported basic GIT functions, such as branching, remote repositories push\pull, stage\add it could allow managing a shared set of scripts.
If this supported GIT hub, it would allow a set of common useful scripts to be maintained by the community.

Such as SQL Version folders so users can refer back to older versions, Author Folders, Folders for types of scripts, etc. This tool works great if all you have are 10-20 scripts, but hundreds ....

  20. Bug: button bar tooltip handling problem.

When moving the curser over the Button Bar that has "Show Scripts Folder", "Give Feedback" etc. The length of the tooltip changes, but the text does not change. If the text is shorter than the length, the excess space is solid black. When the text is longer than the tooltip, the text is truncated.
